And Pewee too?! Again!?!?! For Shame. This was just a bad weekend for quirky character actors...Mr. Buscemi, watch your back.

Last week my dad called with news of concert tickets and family bonding. Not tickets for an artist I'm particularly interested in at the moment, but back when I was a kid (what...five...six years ago?) I thought he was cute and enjoyed his songwriting if not his token nasal vocals. There is still a kind of nostalgic attraction there, but the same can be said for The New Kids on the Block or DC Talk. Of course, in the eyes of my parents I'm still smitten with the man, and I'm willing to play the part so as not to cause embarassment on either side.
What artist you ask? Oh it really doesn't matter that much...
Anyway, it's an excuse to spend time with my dad and brother, and even if the concert isn't that keen, Sean and I can still have fun laughing at the people who tear up and hold hands during "Friends are Friends Forever" (the christian kids in the house know what I'm talkin about, right kids? CCM make the planet rock!).
The next day during art history I came to the sudden and tragic realization that the Michael W. Smith concert is on the exact same night as the highly anticipated Pedro the Lion show! Gah! (See post for Monday, October 21st) But alas the commitment to my dad has been made. Ah, the sacrifices I make for my family...All you kids in Norman tomorrow night at the Pedro show, remember me, for as I listen to "Place in this World" for the 40 millionth time, I will surely remember you.

Welcome back from your hiatus Dave. I would say that I missed you, but then you know that's nothing new.

Nick Hornby likes music. If you like Nick Hornby, and also like music, then you will surely be as excited as we are about Songbook, a new collection of nonfiction essays on Hornby's favorite songs and songwriters. This McSweeney's book will be in hardcover, complete with a compilation CD filled with songs that come with the just about the highest recommendation we could think of: Nick Hornby's. -Future McSweeny's Books
Have you heard of this? Wow. Keen. I'm excited.

As of and hour ago Dave should've left Houston...which means he'll probably leave in 10. Why God put me with someone who's even more chronically late than I am, I'll never know. But yes! Dave's coming up to Shawnee tonight! Rock on!

My day thus far: Woke up at 10:50, jumped out of bed and began running around my dorm room like a crazy person trying to find recently washed yet warm clothing, while simaltaniously trying to clean since both room inspections and my human developement class started at 11. After fending off my RA for another good 10 minutes, the room was finally clean, I was in clothes so off to class I went. 15 minutes late to class, while deffinatly not a personal record, is still later then the ideal so I planned on sneaking in and deftly slipping into my seat which is conveniently located in the back, closest to the door, for just this type of situation. It would've worked too, except the class room was empty. Suddenly I remembered that both my classes are cancelled today. Wish I had shared that information with me sooner, like, say, at 10:50 this morning? Yeah. Way to go me.

I'm taking a break at the moment. I beveled (or rather my wonderful pledge, Bree, beveled) and prepared my nickle plate for intaglio... I finished an incredibly exciting wrap-around cover on nurses for The Bison. Now I'm resting...sadly with my eyes open. I can't think of a better way to procrastinate than by reading McSweeny's. In fact...hey! stop what you're doing! Go to McSweeny's and procrastinate a while....read people's letters to the president and then waste even more time by writing to him yourself! Then, after you actually get some work done, read Gabe Hudson's book Dear Mr. President. Why? because Dubya calls it "unpatriotic and ridiculous." If that's not a good reason I don't know what is.
Okay...back to work...

Evidently if one drinks too much coffee after midnight one ends up staying up till 6 in the morning watching Bravo specials on Petula Clark. Remind one not to do that again.

You know one of the best things about the day after Halloween? All the professors bring their left over candy to class. Good stuff too...Snickers and Kit Kats...It's just like trick or treating but only 1/89th of the work. Yay for abitrary fractions. (On a vaguely related note...Today in "Mathmatics for the Fine Arts Major and the Retarded" we learned how to add and subtract fractions...hmmm).
